PTIMembers of various trade unions stage a protest against the Union government during their nationwide strikeBhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, the central trade union affiliated to the RSS, will hold a nationwide protest on February 25 reiterating its long pending demands related to welfare of workers, including addressing issues across Labour Codes, enhancing minimum pensions and regularisation of scheme workers, among others.âBMS units will organise dharnas and demonstrations at all district headquarters on February 25 to mount pressure on both the central and state governments to resolve the long-pending issues faced by workers across various sectors and industries,â BMS general secretary Surendra Kumar Pandey said in a statement issued on Wednesday.A decision to observe February 25 as Protest Day was taken at the just concluded 21st All India Conference of BMS held at Puri, Odisha. As per the statement, the BMS has consistently raised several pressing issues before the government. âHowever, the response has remained lukewarm and inadequate,â it said, urging both the central and state governments to respond positively and take urgent measures to address its long-standing demands in the interest of workers and national development.A joint platform of 10 central trade unions has observed a nationwide strike on February 9, demanding scrapping of Labour Codes along with other demands of higher minimum pension and regularisation of scheme workers. However, BMS did not join that protest which saw an estimated 30 million workers joining the protest. Live EventsâAddress and rectify workersâ concerns in the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 and immediately convene the Indian Labour Conference along with reconstituting various tripartite committees to ensure their regular, effective, and meaningful functioning for workersâ welfare,â BMS said in its submission to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labour and employment minister Mansukh Mandaviya and chief ministers of states.Besides, BMS has asked the government to ensure strict and universal implementation of labour laws across all sectors and categories of workers, without exception, in the true spirit of Antyodaya. âIncrease minimum pension from Rs 1000 under the Employeesâ Pension Scheme 1995 to Rs 7500 per month along with dearness relief while also enhancing the threshold limits for coverage under the Employeesâ State Insurance (ESIC) and the Employeesâ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to extend benefits to a larger section of workers,â it added.Its other key demands include introduction of a five-day work week in the banking sector, increasing the eligibility ceiling for payment of bonus under the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, in line with present wage levels and ensuring guaranteed employment with job security, eliminating uncertainty and insecurity in service conditions.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
