READ MORE: Jehnny Beth tells us about ‘You Heartbreaker, You’: I wanted to reconnect with the urge of my time in Savages Patton had been a major influence on the Savages frontwoman during the recording process for her 2025 solo album, ‘You Heartbreaker, You’. She has cited the singer’s ability to switch between high-pitched crooning and soft, atmospheric whispering. Advertisement “When Johnny [Hostile, collaborator] and I wrote ‘Look At Me’, we had this idea of a song in two parts,” Beth explained. “When Mike sent his vocals, it was like choosing candy in a candy store; he had a million ideas, it was mind-blowing.” She went on to recall the origins of the snarling, distorted track, saying: “It’s about the modern sellers of truth, who share their opinion online on how to ‘better oneself’, giving an illusion of control – but all they really want is to be the centre of attention.” Beth added: “‘Look At Me’ is a song about deceivers and the effect they have on those susceptible to the sinister luring of misleading ideology.” The single is accompanied by an official music video, inspired by Martin Scorsese’s classic film Taxi Driver (1976), and directed by Beth. Recommended “I represent [Robert] De Niro’s character who embodies this lonely outcast who doesn’t have a place in the world,” Beth said. “Mike is the preacher who changes my outlook on the world, and our two characters merge together towards the end.” The visuals blend “the hyper-real photo-aesthetic of Martin Parr with Gregg Araki filmography” as Beth delves into the underbelly of humanity via the lens of characters “who say a big fuck off to the world”. Beth is currently out on a European and UK tour. She’ll play at London’s Tufnell Park Dome on March 18, following a stop in Brighton. Further shows are scheduled in Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and Dublin. Find any remaining tickets here (UK and Ireland). She’ll then head to Mexico City at the end of the month to support Deftones. That’s where I want to go.” She continued: “The album is a heart-to-heart so the stage will be eyes-to-eyes. It’s about a moment. I’ve been a huge fan of Fugazi since I was a teenager so there will be elements of that raw, unique energy.” In January, Savages celebrated 10 years of their ‘Adore Life’ album by sharing a haunting cover of Black Sabbath‘s ‘Paranoid’ as well as an unreleased track, ‘Prayer’. Elsewhere, Beth covered David Bowie’s ‘Dollar Days’ at an event at the British Library to mark the 10th anniversary of his death. Meanwhile, Mike Patton has seemingly confirmed that Faith No More have disbanded, and said he doesn’t “see it as a sad thing”.
