Read full story AYER KEROH: The commotion at the Meru police station in Kapar, Selangor, was an isolated incident involving two groups in a dispute and does not warrant the introduction of new standard operating procedures, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.The minister expressed his disappointment over claims circulating on social media alleging that a group of men had attacked the police station.Saifuddin Nasution said the actual situation involved two groups who had been fighting outside before one party entered the police station to lodge a report, while the other group followed them in and attempted to obstruct the process."The narrative circulating outside claimed that a group of men attacked the police station," he told reporters after attending a Ramadan programme at the Home Ministry Complex in Ayer Keroh on Thursday (March 5)."We can see how irresponsible such claims are, as they raise unnecessary concerns about the safety and SOPs of police stations," he said.Saifuddin Nasution said the incident should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness in the security arrangements at police stations nationwide."We can't revise SOPs simply because one party comes to lodge a report while another interferes," he said."What we must emphasise instead is the importance of accurate and verified reporting, as this was merely an isolated case," he added.Earlier, the media reported that a dispute over security control at a housing development site was believed to have triggered the commotion and fight at the Meru police station last Monday (March 2).Selangor authorities said investigations revealed that all suspects detained knew each other and were linked to a secret society.
