Indonesia: Java quake kills 40 and injures hundreds

The quake struck Indonesia’s main island of Java, killing more than 40 people and injuring hundreds, local officials said.

The 5.6-magnitude quake struck the West Java city of Chianjur at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), according to the US Geological Survey.

The tremors were felt about 100 km from the capital Jakarta, where people were evacuated from high-rise buildings.

In Jakarta, office workers ran from buildings in the business and civil district during an aftershock that lasted about a minute.

Tax Preparation 101 – A Beginner’s Guide to Filing Your Taxes

Published

on

Taxes can be frustrating and intimidating. However, it is possible to make them as simple as possible. The key is to be organized and understand all the forms you need to file. Once you have all this information, you can prepare your taxes quickly and confidently.

Get Organized

Tax season is a busy time for all of us. The frantic last-minute scramble to find and collect all the documents needed for an upcoming appointment with your accountant can be a nightmare, mainly if you must get organized ahead of time.

Getting your taxes done right the first time can save you time and stress later on, so it’s worth organizing and preparing. Here are a few simple steps to get you started:

1. Create a home for all your tax-related documents and receipts.

This could be a drawer in your desk, a shoe box or any other space that works for you. Just ensure it’s where you know everything is in one place, and keeping your tax-related paperwork in will be convenient.

2. Set aside a block of time on your calendar to organize and prepare your tax information.

Organizing and filing your taxes can seem daunting, but it’s easy if you take the time to do it right. By setting aside a dedicated block of time on your calendar and organizing your tax-related documents now, you can avoid the stress of last-minute filing and ensure you have everything you need to file your taxes by April 17th.

Determine Your Filing Status

Determining your tax filing status is one of the essential parts of your return. It can significantly affect your tax rate and the number of deductions and credits you claim.

In addition, it can affect how much federal income tax you withhold from your employee’s wages. That’s why it’s crucial to get this information right – so you can withhold the proper amount of tax from each employee.

For example, if you’re running payroll and want to know how many employee paychecks to withhold for federal income taxes, you need to know their tax filing status. This can be confusing and time-consuming, but it’s a necessary part of the process. The greatest method to reduce your stress and expenditures this tax season is to file your taxes with the assistance of a tax preparer. You can even get H&R Block coupons for some tax software discounts.

Single, married, married filing jointly, married filing separately, and head of household are the five filing statuses. Since each group has advantages and disadvantages, selecting the one best for your circumstances would be helpful.

If you paid more than half the expense of maintaining your home and had a dependant live with you for more than half the year, you can file as the head of household if you’re single. The most frequent users of this for tax liability difficulties are high-earning singles or spouses.

You can also file as a qualifying widow(er) with a dependent child if you lost your spouse during the tax year and did not remarry during the same year. You can use this filing status for up to two years following their death, as long as you have a qualifying dependent child and meet specific other requirements.

Gather Your Documents

Whether you use tax software, pay someone to prepare your return or complete it yourself; the first task is to gather all your official documents. This may seem like a minor task, but it can become a real headache if you don’t keep track of everything you need.

As the end of the year approaches, you should begin to receive documents that report your taxable income and deductible expenses for the previous year. Most of these will arrive by the end of January.

You’ll want to gather your W-2 forms, 1099 forms for your self-employment and rental property income and receipts for any deductions you claim. For example, you’ll need to collect tickets for the interest you paid on your mortgage or student loans, any medical expenses and charitable donations.

If you have a spouse or dependents, gather their information as well. You’ll need their Social Security number or TIN (Tax Identification Number).

Once you have all this information, calculate your gross income. Then, decide whether to claim the standard deduction or itemize your deductions.

Then, you can file your return and request a refund. Filing as early as possible will save you time and stress and increase your chances of getting a refund.

File Your Return

One of the most crucial financial activities you’ll complete this year is filing your taxes. It is a necessary step that enables you to benefit from tax breaks and deductions that can help you save money.

You must get detailed information from the IRS and your state to file your return. Your name, date of birth, Social Security number, and tax status are included. Also, you must be aware of your earnings, debts, and the paperwork that must be included with your tax return.

Either send it in or file your return online. Because you may utilize a reputable tax software package to help you through the procedure, e-filing is considered safer and quicker than other options.

You can always contact the IRS or a tax professional with any questions. They can help you get organized, determine your filing status, and answer any questions that may come up during the process.

Filing your taxes can be daunting, especially if you must familiarize yourself with all the ins and outs. But it doesn’t have to be a frustrating experience. By taking it one step at a time and using the tips below, you can avoid common mistakes and find ways to save on your taxes.

Beagle Puppies – What You Need to Know Before Bringing One Home

Beagle Puppies - What You Need to Know Before Bringing One Home

Beagles are lively, active dogs who need regular exercise and playtime. They can also be prone to obesity, which can cause health problems such as joint pain and digestive issues. Before bringing a Beagle puppy home, be sure you are ready to provide him with a good life. Read on for more information about bringing this popular breed into your family.

Health Care

When bringing home a Beagle puppy, it’s essential to consider their health care needs. Like all breeds, Beagles can suffer from certain health conditions that affect their quality of life, so it’s vital to have the plan to ensure they receive the best possible care. Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) is a common issue affecting Beagles, which occurs when the jelly-like cushion between one or more of their vertebrae slips or ruptures. Symptoms range from mild pain to paralysis, and it’s essential to get them checked out if they start to show signs. Another common issue affecting Beagles is glaucoma, an eye condition that causes squinting, watery eyes, and increased eye pressure. It is essential to have your vet perform an annual glaucoma screening to diagnose and treat it as early as possible.

Training

Beagles are highly intelligent and need plenty of training to become the well-behaved dogs you desire. Puppies generally start training around eight weeks of age and should be trained regularly at least twice a day.

A Beagle has a short attention span and can get frustrated easily, so it’s best to train them in stages, according to their age. They also like to be rewarded for their obedience, so treat them with a treat when they do something right. To begin, move a treat in your hand over your Beagle’s head and close to her nose. When she lifts her head to follow it, click and reward with the treat. You can repeat this step several times until she understands clicking means a treat. Once she’s done this several times, add the cue word “sit” when her butt lowers to the ground. Once your Beagle understands that you’ll reward her with a treat when she sits, you can teach her to stay in the position longer. This takes patience and consistency, but it’s well worth the effort.

Exercise

If you are planning to bring a Beagle puppy home, then it is crucial to understand their exercise needs. This will help you provide them with the best possible care and ensure they grow healthy and happy.

The amount of exercise your Beagle requires depends on various factors, including age, health, and energy level. However, a general rule of thumb is that Beagles need between 45 and 90 minutes of daily exercise to keep their bodies fit and strong. Walking regularly is one of the most important ways to meet your dog’s exercise needs. This will help them burn energy and give them a chance to socialize with other dogs and their owners while improving their overall health and well-being.

Nutrition

If you plan on bringing a Beagle puppy home, it is essential to know the nutrition needs of your pup. The right amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats, and other nutrients is needed to help your pet grow into a healthy adult dog.

You should start your Beagle pup on food formulated specifically for their size and stage of development. This will ensure they get the appropriate balance of calcium and protein for their growth.

The best food for your Beagle will have meat as the first ingredient on the label and won’t include cereals or meat by-products. This is important because it indicates that the food has been manufactured with great attention to quality and will give your puppy the nutrition they need for a lifetime.

Socialization

If you want your beagle puppy to be a well-adjusted and friendly companion, you need to get started with socialization early on. Your pup may become shy and anxious in new environments without proper socialization.

As a result, they could develop a fearful, anxious or aggressive personality. This behavior can severely affect their future, so getting this right is important!

According to Zygmunt Bauman, an animal psychologist, socialization is ongoing throughout life. This contrasts with previous eras of human history, when individuals typically married once, lived in one location for a long time and had a specific career. The most effective way to socialize your Beagle is to expose them to various people, dogs and animals, including those they’ll encounter later. This can be done in some ways, including taking them to puppy classes and obedience training sessions. This can help your dog build confidence, be more noise-sensitive, socialize with other dogs, learn to walk on a leash and improve their overall behavior. Socialization is critical to preventing your Beagle from developing behavioral problems like separation anxiety.

Disney Fires Marvel Entertainment President Ike Perlmutter

Disney fires Marvel Entertainment president Ike Perlmutter Walt as part of cost-cutting measures

The Walt Disney Co has fired Marvel Entertainment chairman Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter as part of a cost-cutting program, a source confirmed on Wednesday.

Perlmutter, 80, backed activist shareholder Nelson Peltz’s failed bid earlier this year for a seat on the Disney corporate board.
By phone on Wednesday, the executive was told that Marvel Entertainment, the company’s small division responsible for publishing comics and some consumer products, would be merged with Disney’s larger business units, according to a second person with knowledge of the matter.

According to a second source, Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment, will remain and report to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

On Monday, Disney began cutting 7,000 jobs to save $5.5 billion and make its streaming business profitable.

Perlmutter, who outbid billionaire Carl Icahn for control of the comic book publisher in the late 1990s, sold Marvel to Disney for $4 billion in 2009. At the time, Disney stated that Perlmutter would continue to control the Marvel property.

In 2015, Disney CEO Bob Iger restructured Marvel and placed Marvel Studios under Walt Disney Studios. Iger described the decision in his autobiography, The Ride of a Lifetime, saying that he found “growing tension” between the New York Marvel team and the Hollywood movie group, adding, “I had to intervene.”

This decision, according to several sources, infuriated Perlmutter, who retained the title of president of Marvel Entertainment but did not control the studio’s budget or creative process.

Perlmutter, who friends say was frustrated with Disney’s financial performance under its former CEO Bob Chapek, took the unusual step last year of contacting Disney board members and executives several times to support Peltz’s departure from the board, according to regulatory filings. organs.

Disney insiders expressed no confidence in Perlmutter’s work on behalf of an activist shareholder. An outside consultant for an entertainment company said that Perlmutter may have been motivated by anger at his reduced role in the company.
