The Baltimore band recorded their spin on the Manchester band’s classic track for Triple J‘s ‘Like A Version’ series. READ MORE: Turnstile at the BRITs 2026: “Artists serve as a mirror to reflect what’s happening in the world” Advertisement “I love this song – it’s one of my favourite songs of all time,” explained frontman Brendan Yates. “It’s unconventional and simple and very… just beautiful.” Guitarist Meg Mills said ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ boasts “one of the most iconic basslines of all time”, referring to the late Mani’s part. “I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity,” she added. “With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to kind of pay homage to him. Definitely as a Brit, Stone Roses is one of those bands that every kid that had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age.” Mills went on to hail them as “such an iconic band, and, in my opinion, probably the coolest of all the kind of Manchester bands coming out at that time”. She said the Roses were “in a league of their own”. Yates went on to recall the “cool” experience of recording their version of ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ in the studio. You can watch the full interview in the video below, along with the performance itself. Recommended The cover sees Turnstile put a dreamy yet rocked-up spin on the tune, beginning with an ethereal keyboard intro before gradually bringing in the full band to create an atmospheric instrumental. Turnstile also aired ‘Sunshower’ from their acclaimed fourth and latest album, ‘Never Enough’ (2025). Their set for ‘Like A Version’ and nod to Mani comes after the band attended the BRIT Awards 2026 in Manchester last Saturday (February 28). Turnstile were nominated for International Group at the ceremony, but lost out to Geese. At another point in the show, Tim Burgess paid tribute to the “phenomenal” Mani on stage: “He changed music and inspired generations ahead of him.” Advertisement Speaking to NME on the BRITs red carpet, Turnstile reflected on the widespread praise they have received for ‘Never Enough’, and the huge crowds they’ve seen show up for their latest run of live shows. “It’s been great and touring has been amazing, so something like this is [nomination at the BRITs], is like a cherry on top,” Yates explained. “It’s so cool just to be here with our friends and to celebrate.” He also highlighted the importance of musicians using their platforms to speak out against injustice, telling NME: “It’s very important. I think artists kind of serve as a mirror to reflect what’s happening in the world. Especially in the States right now, there’s a lot of dehumanisation and a lot of need for empathy and awareness. “We’re a band and we try to do what we can to reflect that, and let people have a voice and shine lights on that.” The BRITs nomination followed Turnstile taking home two trophies at the 2026 Grammys in Los Angeles (Best Rock Album for ‘Never Enough’ and Best Metal Performance for ‘Birds’). This summer, the band will play a UK-exclusive headline show at The Piece Hall in Halifax and open for Tyler, The Creator at London’s All Points East. Turnstile’s ‘Never Enough’ landed at Number Eight on NME’s 50 best albums of 2025 list. The single ‘Look Out For Me’ earned the Number 11 spot in our 50 best songs of the year feature, too.
